Driving a rental car to the Fuji Kawaguchiko Autumn Leaves Festival between November 7 and 29? Check how you will pay before leaving Tokyo or your accommodation. The organizer now lists the No. 1 parking lot as paid, with a JPY 1,000 charge for an ordinary car and cashless payment only. An old guide describing all festival parking as free is no longer enough to plan this stop.

Short answerIf you intend to use No. 1 lot, confirm that your payment method is accepted and include its posted charge in your budget. Otherwise choose an alternative from the official parking map or compare the Red Line bus. Neither an available space nor a particular card or app is guaranteed here.

Prepare the Payment, Not Just the Navigation

The organizer identifies this as a change for this year’s No. 1 lot. It also lists JPY 3,000 for large buses, which is a different vehicle category. Do not apply the ordinary-car amount to a tour coach or assume every paid lot has the same tariff.

The notice says cashless only without listing individual cards, electronic-money products or apps. Our practical suggestion is to ask about the method you actually carry before joining the entry queue. A phone wallet or foreign-issued card should not be treated as confirmed compatible simply because it works elsewhere.

Choose an Actual Lot Before Driving to the North Shore

The North Kawaguchiko Tourism Association links to the current festival parking map and warns that spaces are limited. Open that map before departure, match the lot to your vehicle, and check its signs, opening conditions and exit plan. The organizer’s revised leaflet also distinguishes free and paid parking and marks some spaces as weekend/holiday only.

Treat the festival as a planned stop within your lake day. If you are staying nearby, ask your accommodation whether you can leave the car there and how to reach the venue; a shuttle, guest parking privilege or walkable route is not assumed. If driving from Tokyo, allow flexibility in your return plan. This check does not establish queue lengths, road delays, a reserved parking space or a foliage forecast.

Do not wait or stop along the maple avenue to solve a parking problem: the official leaflet prohibits roadside parking and stopping around the avenue and asks visitors to use pedestrian crossings. Follow staff instructions rather than a navigation app’s shortest approach.

Consider the Bus, Then Plan the Return

The official access guidance routes rail passengers through Kawaguchiko Station and onward by the sightseeing Red Line to Kubota Itchiku Art Museum stop. Use the current operator timetable alongside the festival map, and choose the return before committing to an evening visit. Festival illumination hours are not a bus-service promise.

Bus fares, your exact stop-to-venue walking time and a suitable evening return were not established by the parking notice. Check the operator’s information for your date. Our Kawaguchiko Station arrival guide can help with the local transfer; the Fuji trip planner helps keep the rest of the day flexible.

Traveler Actions

  • Confirm your intended lot and payment method before driving to the festival.
  • Use the organizer-linked parking map and current on-site instructions; do not assume all spaces are free or open every day.
  • Keep an alternative arrival plan and avoid roadside waiting or parking around the venue.
  • If switching to the Red Line, verify both directions and the return departure for your actual visit date.
