If you are adding Fugaku Wind Cave or Narusawa Ice Cave to a November Fuji Five Lakes trip, move an afternoon visit earlier from November 16: the operator’s seasonal schedule closes both at 16:30 instead of 17:00. Choose the cave to suit your group before buying admission, especially if someone finds steep steps or crouching difficult.
Key Facts For Travelers
Put the Cave Before Your Last Afternoon Stop
The shorter hours are part of the operator’s currently displayed seasonal schedule, rather than a newly announced emergency closure. Hours may change with weather or conditions inside. The published closing time is not a confirmed last-entry time: do not plan to arrive at 16:30 and expect admission.
Our planning suggestion is to visit earlier in the day if you also want lakeside sightseeing or an evening event. Leave room for the approach, ticket queue and return transport. This is not a full-day itinerary anchor on its own; a short cave course can still require a much larger block of your day when buses are involved.
Choose the Route, Not Just the Name
The operator describes Fugaku Wind Cave as a gentler horizontal cave and gives a nominal 15-minute viewing course. That makes it the first option to compare when your group prefers the less demanding of these two routes. It is not a promise of step-free access; ask the facility about your particular mobility needs before committing.
Narusawa Ice Cave has a vertical, circular route. Its precautions describe around 100 stairs, a 21-metre descent and ascent, and a lowest ceiling of 91 centimetres with a roughly five-metre section requiring a crouched sideways movement. If that does not suit someone in your group, choose a different stop rather than assuming the short course is easy.
Bring a warm layer: the operator puts the cave interiors at about 0–4°C. Ice formations vary; this check does not establish what ice you will see on your visit.
Families: Confirm the Ice Cave’s Age Rule
The operator’s two notices do not give consistent age wording. The child-specific notice, dated August 13, 2021, excludes children under four and those below 100 centimetres. The newer general precautions, dated October 18, 2025, give an approximate age of three with a height of at least 100 centimetres and independent walking. Both prohibit carrying a child into the Ice Cave.
If your child is three, do not assume entry is allowed from one page alone. Confirm directly with Narusawa Ice Cave at +81 555-85-2301. The published child price does not itself establish eligibility. We have not resolved that age discrepancy with the facility.
From Kawaguchiko: Choose Your Return Before Your Cave
On Fujikyu Bus’s current sightseeing timetable, the Blue Line serves Narusawa Ice Cave (stop 80) and Fugaku Wind Cave (stop 51) from Kawaguchiko Station. The Green Line also serves Fugaku Wind Cave. Compare both directions on the operator’s route and timetable page; do not assume a bus will be waiting after closing.
The caves are separate attractions, not a connected underground walk. The operator estimates 15 minutes between them along the roadside sidewalk, or 30 minutes via the Tokai Nature Trail. Budget that transfer separately from admission and viewing. Drivers can use the parking areas listed as free, but this is not a space reservation.
For a day trip from Tokyo, check your local return to Kawaguchiko before fixing the onward train or highway bus. Exact fares, your chosen departures and total door-to-door time need a date-specific check. Use our Fuji trip planner to keep the rest of the day realistic.

Traveler Actions
- For November 16 onward, allow for the earlier 16:30 closing and confirm last admission before setting out.
- Compare your group’s needs with the published route conditions; select one cave if the schedule is tight.
- Check the Ice Cave’s child eligibility directly if the conflicting age wording affects your family.
- Choose the return bus and onward connection first, then allow time for any transfer between the caves.
