The Field Center opens on the September 21 public holiday despite its usual Monday closure. Book guided forest walks and check cave access before traveling.
The Holiday Monday Is an Opening Day
Kawaguchiko Field Center normally closes on Mondays, but its September notice explicitly says it will open on September 21 because that Monday is a public holiday. This makes it a possible forest-and-heritage stop during the September holiday period.
The center sits in woodland formed over a Mount Fuji lava flow. Forest walks and a visit to the Funatsu Tainai lava tree molds are separate activities, so decide which experience you want before booking.
Hours, Reservations and Separate Fees
- Funatsu Tainai Shrine access: 09:00–17:00; last reception 16:30.
- Listed cave fee: ¥350 for high-school age and older; ¥100 for elementary and junior-high students.
- All staff-led walks require reservations. The regular holiday walk is listed at 10:00 and 14:00 for one hour, with a small-group capacity of about ten.
- Holiday-walk prices: adults ¥1,100; elementary through high-school students ¥550. Cave admission is not included.

Call 0555-72-4331 to confirm September 21 walk availability and your preferred departure before visiting. An opening-day announcement does not guarantee seats in a guided group.
Weather can prevent cave entry, and group visits may make reception busy. Check access that morning, wear shoes suitable for woodland walking, and arrive well before the final reception time. Do not treat the center as a bird-observation attraction: the notice says bird observation is unavailable inside the center.
The address is 6603 Funatsu, Fujikawaguchiko. General center entry is free and parking is free for facility users; paid activities and cave entry are separate. Ask staff which routes suit your party rather than assuming every underground passage is suitable.
