Yamanashi Prefecture says the Yoshida Route between the summit and Izumigataki in the fifth-station area, plus the summit-to-Sato-goya descent route, entered winter closure at midnight on Friday, September 11. The official climbing season has ended, and summit attempts should not be planned.

The Summit Route Is Out Of Season

The official Mt. Fuji site states that the 2026 climbing season has ended and the mountain is not open to the public for summit climbing. Mountain huts, upper-route toilets, rescue posts, and seasonal support services are no longer operating as they do during the summer season.

A clear road to the fifth station does not mean the summit trail is open. Road access, fifth-station sightseeing, and climbing-trail status are separate decisions managed by different operators.

What Remains Open Below

Yamanashi Prefecture lists the 0.6-kilometer link from Izumigataki to Sato-goya and the 0.8-kilometer link from Izumigataki to Fuji Subaru Line Fifth Station as open until a planned November 1 closure. Snow or other conditions can move that closure earlier.

The longer lower trail from Sato-goya to Nakanochaya is also listed as passable, but the prefecture specifically warns about fallen trees and rockfall. This is not an invitation to continue upward into the closed summit route.

Plan A Fifth-Station Visit Separately

The official season guide lists the fifth-station information center from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM during the September 12-October 31 off-season period. Other shops, buses, toilets, and the Fuji Subaru Line can have separate hours or weather restrictions.

Check the road and bus operator on the day, carry warm layers, and leave enough daylight for any lower-trail walk. Autumn weather on Mt. Fuji can change rapidly even when conditions around the lakes are mild.
